Why watermark your photos?
Every photo you publish online can be copied in one right-click. A watermark puts your name, brand or website directly on the image, so anyone who copies or reposts it carries your credit with it. For photographers, designers, Etsy sellers and content creators, watermarking is the simplest form of free marketing: every shared image becomes an ad for you.
How to watermark a photo in 4 steps
- Drag your photo into the box above (or click to browse).
- Choose Text or Logo mode, then type your text or drop a transparent PNG.
- Pick position, size, color and opacity until the preview looks right — subtle enough not to ruin the photo, visible enough to claim it.
- Click Download watermarked photo. The full-resolution file is saved straight to your device.
Watermarking tips that actually work
Make it hard to crop out
A small watermark in one corner takes two seconds to crop away. For images you really care about, enable tiling so the text repeats across the whole frame — cropping can no longer remove your credit.
Don't ruin the photo
Keep opacity between 50% and 70%, and prefer white text with a slight rotation on busy images, or dark text on light ones. The goal: a viewer notices your name, not an ugly stamp.
Use the right text
The best watermark is the thing you want people to find: your website domain (best — it's clickable credit), your @handle, or simply © Your Name / Year.
Frequently asked questions
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. This tool is a static page: the canvas rendering happens inside your browser using JavaScript. Your images never leave your device, which makes it safe for client work, NDA material or unreleased products.
Is there a limit on image size or count?
Export is capped at 4096px on the long edge (with an 8192px option) to keep your browser responsive. There is no limit on how many images you can watermark.
Does a watermark really stop image theft?
A determined thief can remove a visible watermark with effort, but tiled watermarks make cleanup expensive and usually not worth it. For most creators, a watermark stops the casual copy-paste that accounts for the vast majority of unauthorized reuse.
Can I watermark PDF files too?
Yes — see our dedicated watermark PDF tool that stamps text on every page of a document.
